Dutch as a Second Language

M HKA welcomes NT2 (Dutch as a second language) classes who, with a guide or independently, want to visit the museum. This introduction to the museum and the artworks is all about interaction: between the viewer and the art, but also between the visitors themselves. The interaction takes many forms: associations and imagination, conversations and discussions, creativity and expression.

There are two ways to visit M HKA with your NT2 class:

  1. As a NT2 teacher, you visit the museum without a guide and, using the teaching bundle, you work with your students yourself.
  2. You visit the museum with a guide. A guide takes you on a trip through the museum, taking care of the complete interactive tour (an hour and a half).

In the educational bundle, you get to know the museum and contemporary art. You will discover what contemporary art and NT2 students have in store for each other, and we’ll tell you all about the model we’ve developed: interactive teaching methods and opportunities to practice Dutch. It is a practical document with which teachers and students can prepare and experience their museum visit, and discuss it afterwards in the classroom.
