About Muhka
The Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp, known as Muhka, is a leading museum for contemporary visual art and visual culture. Deeply rooted in Antwerp’s avant-garde, it has strong international connections.
Muhka broadens your perspective through large-scale exhibitions and intimate presentations by established artists and emerging talent. Experience film, performance and artist talks, or take part in creative workshops and tailored guided tours.
The collection spans regional and international contemporary art from the avant-garde of the 1960s to the present day. It includes major works by key artists such as Gordon Matta-Clark, Panamarenko and Otobong Nkanga, alongside significant ensembles from many parts of the world. Muhka focuses on Eurasia, the territory of Europe and Asia, as a multipolar space encompassing a plurality of cultures.
Researchers place contemporary artistic practices in context. Muhka documents artworks, studies artistic developments and facilitates academic research. The Centrum Kunstarchieven Vlaanderen (CKV) at Muhka builds, manages and makes important art archives accessible, while sharing its expertise with the arts sector.
Browse art publications in the library and reading room. Enjoy views of the Scheldt from the rooftop terrace of the museum café MuhkaFE, alongside works by James Turrell and Keith Haring. Muhka is also active beyond the museum. De Cinema, at arts centre De Studio, screens thought-provoking films that often remain under the radar. Muhka also manages Panamarenko’s house and studio.
Muhka helps shape the character of Antwerp’s Zuid district, a vibrant artistic neighbourhood with studios, art galleries, cafés and restaurants, and the new Zuidpark. Nearby you will find Fotomuseum Antwerpen (FOMU), Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen (KMSKA), and the promenade along the newly redeveloped Scheldt quays.
Muhka is a cultural heritage institution of the Flemish Community.

Our Ethical Code sets out the values and principles that guide how Muhka operates. It provides staff, the governing body and other stakeholders with a framework for collaboration, decision-making and dealing with ethical questions and conflicts of interest.
