Art & the Senses

For children, the use of the senses is inextricably linked to discovering and defining their world. It is through the use of all your senses that you can fully experience – and sometimes better understand – the world.

A link between art and the senses is not surprising. A work of art often lays claim to our senses. Even if you can only see the artwork, it is interesting to imagine how it would feel or sound like, what it would smell like, or how it would taste. By sharpening your senses, other ways of looking are being stimulated and this way, art is experienced intensely.

Looking at art becomes a voyage of discovery during which children always find a different manner to enter into dialogue with the artwork. They will also find similarities with elements from their own environment.
