Wednesday 20 May

2pm–5pm Protest Art for Beginners
6th floor

Artist Keith Haring painted everything he encountered; from fridges to walls, posters and radios, stickers and badges. He had a message to share and wanted to spread it in every possible way!
Join in and send your message out into the world; what matters to you, what excites you, who has captured your heart?
By painting, drawing, cutting and pasting, young and old can freely create posters, stickers and badges!

Sunday 24 May

11am–2pm Graffiti Art for Beginners
6th floor

Artist Keith Haring started as a graffiti artist in the New York subway. He drew with chalk on black poster panels when no advertisement was displayed. This allowed him to draw cheaply and ensured that everyone could enjoy his art!
Is there a graffiti artist in you too? Come and practise together within our museum walls. Express yourself on tarpaulins or panels, and stencil your inner Banksy with paint!

11am–2pm Earth Activism
6th floor

Antwerp-based artist Otobong Nkanga loves to scatter stardust! The raw material mica is found in her country of birth and then distributed worldwide. This ‘stardust’ ends up in our beautiful make-up!
What do we actually do with everything Mother Earth offers us? Do you ever worry about the future of the planet? Or are you already thinking about a home on Mars…
Come and experiment together with ways to share your story. Step into the magical world of Otobong Nkanga!

2pm–5pm Customising Clothing
6th floor

Artist Keith Haring painted everything he saw; even his clothes! His friends were not spared either: pop star Madonna wore a hand-painted jacket and he later opened a real ‘pop shop’!
Feeling inspired yourself, and do you still have some old garments? Bring them along and get creative with our museum guide. (or buy a small backpack for 5 euros at our reception)
You’ll go home with a wearable artwork—success guaranteed!

2pm–5pm Weaving for Beginners
6th floor

Antwerp-based artist Otobong Nkanga is interwoven with different backgrounds, just like the many raw materials arriving and departing through the Port of Antwerp. At this crossroads of people and things, she creates her artworks.
She weaves stories into tapestries; a global yet also distinctly ‘Flemish’ art.
During this activity, we weave various materials together into one whole.
Curious to see what will emerge?
