On Thursday 24 September, Maarten Inghels opens his INBOX presentation Thieves’ Code. The jury of Onboards Biennale 25 selected the artist for this presentation. The 2025 edition focused on ‘relationships’, approaching billboards as spaces for collective artistic encounters.
About Thieves’ Code
Since 2024, Maarten Inghels has been marking the pavements of the cities he visits with his own system of symbols. For each front door, he chooses a symbol based on what he can discover about the resident through the window or letterbox.
To an outsider, the symbols remain enigmatic. With the accompanying key, the street becomes readable in a different way. Thieves’ Code thus raises questions about what we think we know about others and about the pressure on our privacy.
