Antwerp Queer Arts Festival X Muhka

Partnership
Muhka is building a sustainable partnership with AQAF (Antwerp Queer Arts Festival) in which contemporary art, social engagement and artistic innovation visibly strengthen each other. From our shared belief that art creates space for diverse perspectives and experiences, we are creating a constituent platform together for artists who offer us new stories and insights.
The partnership between Muhka & AQAF is conceived as a long-term exchange of knowledge, expertise and networks. By connecting with each other’s strengths, we strengthen artists and audiences, and work together towards a more inclusive and future-oriented art practice in which a diversity of voices can resonate sustainably.
Programme 2026
From 2026, AQAF will take on an active curatorial role within Muhka’s public programme:
Woeker Quilt during Muhka’s Family Day
On 12 July, during Muhka’s Family Day, the co-creative Woeker Quilt will be activated in a connecting workshop that focuses on community in an act of togetherness. Afterwards, the quilt travels on to ‘WOEKER’, a festival about gender diversity taking place in November 2026 in Antwerp, Ghent and Leuven.
Antwerp Pride Week
During Antwerp Pride Week on 7, 8 and 9 August, Muhka & AQAF present the artist Sasa Ghanem-Chaney (°1993, French-Algerian), who was curated by AQAF following an open call. In this way, both emerging and established talent have the opportunity to show their work within a museum context focused on dialogue, visibility and encounter.
In addition, numerous light-hearted actions will take place in the public space around Muhka, from Feminist Spaces Collective, Workout like FLINTA* and Drag Artists to a true Kiss in.
Transgender Awareness Week
Muhka’s partnership with AQAF continues in the autumn during Transgender Awareness Week, from 13 to 26 November 2026, when Muhka will once again hand over curatorship. During this period, AQAF brings together a programme that creates space for artistic voices contributing to a broader reflection on identity, representation and community.
