In 2024, Sean Peleman won the Hugo Roelandt Prize with his graduation project in the programme Graphic Art and Drawing at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. The M HKA invited him to make a presentation for INBOX during the exhibition Hugo Roelandt – The End is a New Beginning.

From 1974 to 1982, cultural centre King Kong was a vibrant space in Antwerp where film, debate, and activism came together. In addition to offering a broad spectrum of film classics and contemporary auteur cinema, King Kong also served as a platform for socially critical documentaries, feminist films, queer cinema, and revolutionary Third Cinema.

In MALAISE, his first solo institutional show in Belgium, Özgür Kar explores collective unease and existential tension through a new installation blending video, sound, and sculpture. Inspired by medieval allegory and absurdist theater, the work navigates the space between intimacy and estrangement.

Schools regularly organise cultural activities such as theatre and film performances, workshops and museum visits. Children and youngsters who attend classes at hospital school De Leerexpert often lack these opportunities. Reason enough for De Leerexpert Ziekenhuisschool and M HKA to join forces, for the eighth year in a row.

Leo Reijnders’ ever-expanding artistic practice encompasses not only drawing, painting, and animation but also performance, curating, and radio-making. The artistic strategies he employs and the deliberately ambiguous positions he adopts as an artist challenge the conventions of the art world, navigating the boundaries between inside and outside, centre and fringe.

The Geopolitics of Infrastructure brings together artists who consider the enchantment and power relations of infrastructure. It also considers the possibilities of artistic imagination in conceptualising new and alternative infrastructural models.

The End is a New Beginning is Hugo Roelandt’s first museum overview exhibition, and will mark ten years since his passing.

The M HKA collection is always evolving, and we live in times of change. In 2025, M HKA will present a renewed and concise collection display featuring around thirty outstanding works by Flemish artists, including those who live and work (or have lived and worked) here.

Bruno Zhu’s In Situ commission materializes an imposing set of revolving walls hung on the two central pillars in the exhibition space. Operating like two gears engaged in each other, the artist’s site-responsive passageway disrupts the open space, forcefully creating two separate zones.

Janina Fritz creates sculptures and spatial installations that explore the tensions between the body, architecture, and controlled environments, breaking boundaries with poetic and explosive forms.

The archive presentation at M HKA offers, for the first time, an overview of Today's Place's most significant projects—videos of performances and photos of exhibitions—complemented by historical printed matter, magazines, and posters.

'Journey to the Stars' delves into Panamarenko’s fascination with the cosmos. By showcasing major works such as Bing of the Ferro Lusto, Flying Cigar Called Flying Tiger, and De Grote Plumbiet together for the first time, complemented by calculations, sketches, and photographs from the archive, the artist’s thought process and imagination are brought to light.
