About the exhibition
A year ago, S & W & … showed just how strongly the world of Suske & Wiske can influence artists. Willy Vandersteen’s visual language, humour and imagination proved to be a rich source of inspiration for a wide range of artists.
For this second part, five artists were invited, in collaboration with Johan Pas, to dive into that world once again:
- Aline Bouvy
- Jean Katambayi
- Kristof Santy
- Sharon Van Overmeiren
- Shirley Villavicencio Pizango
Their encounter with Suske & Wiske has resulted in new works that play with homage, commentary, critique and humour. The works enter into dialogue with one another and with an original design by Vandersteen for the 1953 album De Tartaarse Helm.
Together, they offer a fresh perspective on a comic-book universe that has been part of our collective memory for generations.
