Canine Futures — Earth Day in M HKA
25 Apr 2026
On Earth Day, the lecture Canine Futures: Traces of Care, for Cities to Come by Mine Yıldırım takes centre stage at M HKA.
Alongside this central lecture, you can take part in a silkscreen action inspired by Nicolás García Uriburu and a walk-in workshop with Volle Grond.
Free admission. Booking is required for the lecture. Join us on 25 April for an afternoon of art, care, biodiversity and collective action.
Programme
At the heart of the programme is the lecture Canine Futures: Traces of Care, for Cities to Come. Around it are two activities connecting artistic practice with ecological reflection and collective action.
Canine Futures: Traces of Care, for Cities to Come
15:00-16:30 | 6th floor, Superhost space | Language: English
Central lecture by Mine Yıldırım, Assistant Professor at Kadir Has University Istanbul, Türkiye.
This lecture explores how cities can make room for shared ways of living together with animals, with a focus on street dogs in Istanbul. Rather than approaching care as private property, Mine Yıldırım looks at how feeding, observing and caring for animals in public space create forms of connection, responsibility and co-existence.
The lecture also reflects on how these fragile relationships are shaped by tension, conflict and municipal intervention. At a time of ecological crisis, it invites us to think about urban life through reciprocity, proximity and everyday practices of care.
Free activity, but booking is required. Book your place here.

Additional programme
Before and after the lecture, you can take part in two open activities in and around the museum.
Nicolás García Uriburu Silkscreen Printing Action
13:00-15:00 | Ground floor of the museum
Take part in a silkscreen action inspired by the ecological practice of Nicolás García Uriburu. Through his images of animals and his environmental interventions, Uriburu drew attention to the relationship between geography, identity and the natural world.
During this action, visitors are invited to print on textiles and engage in a direct and accessible way with themes such as biodiversity, vulnerability and ecological responsibility.
Bring your own textile, or buy textile on site for €3 to print on.
In collaboration with Rombus, with thanks to the Nicolás Uriburu Estate.
Walk-in workshop with Volle Grond
16:00-17:30 | M HKA terrace | Languages: Dutch and English
Join Volle Grond for a walk-in workshop on the M HKA terrace. Visitors will make seed bombs using soil, clay and seeds, and discover how small interventions can make the city greener and support urban biodiversity.
This activity introduces participants to guerrilla gardening and invites both children and adults to reflect on how overlooked urban spaces can become places of growth, care and ecological imagination.
