Showing Off 11 — Ziekenhuisschool

For the eleventh year in a row, Ziekenhuisschool Antwerpen and M HKA are joining forces. Showing Off 11 is a story about the wonder, experimentation, action and creativity that arise when children and young people are exposed to contemporary art.

We believe that art, and especially playing with image, language and music, can create space for feelings, thoughts and imagination. This year, together with national and international artists, we delved into the world of visual poetry: looking, interpreting and reshaping.

During creative workshops, the young people discovered how images can speak and words can become visible. What often begins with doubt grows into wonder. Pupils see themselves differently, dare to experiment and sometimes surpass their own expectations.

This exchange is also special for the artists, supervisors and the museum. The young people’s open perspective and honest creativity make this project a mutual source of inspiration.

Many of our pupils carry a unique story with them. At Ziekenhuisschool Antwerpen, we see every day how art can create space for feelings, thoughts and imagination.

Showing Off 11 shows what can arise when children and young people are given the opportunity, through image, language and music, to experiment, imagine and learn to see themselves differently.
