Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about Muhka. Whether you want to know about our opening hours, accessibility or the museum’s accessibility, we have set everything out for you.
Visit
Is M HKA open? M HKA is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11 am to 6 pm. Every last Sunday of the month, during M HKA Late, the museum is open until 9 pm. More about opening hours
Is M HKAFE, the museum café, open? You are welcome in the museum café during the museum’s opening hours, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11 am to 6 pm. Reservations are not possible. In good weather, you can also make use of the roof terrace. Did you know that you can admire a mural by Keith Haring in the museum café? How can I avoid busy times? It is often busier in the museum between 2 pm and 5 pm. Would you prefer a quieter moment? Then visit the museum before 2 pm.
Can I take my coat and bag into the museum? Coats, bags and umbrellas are not allowed in the museum. You can store them in the free lockers at the entrance. A handbag may be taken inside.
Can I use a cloakroom or locker? Yes, there is an unattended cloakroom for groups and free lockers are available at the entrance. The lockers work with 1 euro coins. You can also obtain a token at the desk.
How long may I stay in the museum? You may stay as long as you like during opening hours.
Can I have lunch during my visit? You can have lunch in the indoor M HKAFE, the museum café with roof terrace, on the 4th floor.

Where can I see the permanent collection? The M HKA collection is constantly in motion. Changing collection displays bring different works into focus each time. Free to visit in the collection wing on the ground floor. In this way, the museum responds to current events, presents recent acquisitions and keeps its finger on the pulse of developments in contemporary art.
How is Muhka laid out? Muhka programmes both large-scale exhibitions and intimate presentations, by established artists and emerging talent. You discover them in the various exhibition spaces in the museum. Each space with its own concept, form and rhythm.
Is there a floor plan of the museum? You can find a floor plan of the museum here. On the ground floor you will find the entrance hall with reading room, information desk and museum shop. To the left of the reading room is the collection wing. To the right behind the information desk is the In Situ space. On the 1st floor there is the Salon. On the 2nd floor, M HKA programmes the large-scale exhibition. On the 4th floor, you can catch your breath in M HKAFE, the museum café with roof terrace. On the 5th floor, we open a new INBOX presentation every month. Opening every last Thursday of the month, during M HKA Late. On the 6th and top floor, finally, you will find the Superhost space.
Is there an audio guide? There is no audio guide available, because all our presentations change every 4 months.

Does Muhka also screen films? De Cinema, Muhka’s film programme, is housed in De Studio. The programme offers the very best that cinema has to offer: alongside masterpieces from film history, we also screen relevant cinema of today, the classics of tomorrow.

Tickets
Do I need to buy tickets in advance or can I also do that in the museum? You can buy tickets at the museum desk. You do not need to buy a ticket in advance. It is currently not possible to buy a ticket online.
Are you coming with a group or a class? Please let us know via reservatie@muhka.be. This allows us to ensure a smooth welcome.
Can I visit the museum shop without a ticket? You can visit the museum shop without a ticket during the museum’s opening hours.
Can I visit the museum café without a ticket? You can visit M HKAFE, the museum café, without a ticket during the museum’s opening hours.
Can I visit the collection wing without a ticket? You can visit the collection wing on the ground floor free of charge, so without a ticket. And that during the museum’s opening hours. The same applies to INBOX and Superhost, on the 5th and 6th floors of M HKA. The reading room is also freely accessible.
Is the Museum Pass valid at M HKA? The Museum Pass is valid with us. You can then visit the museum free of charge. Find out more about reductions and discount cards
Can I visit M HKA free of charge with a student card? You can visit the museum free of charge for an academic year with the M HKA Student Pass.
I am from the press. Can I enter on presentation of my press card? There is free admission for press on presentation of a press card. Please also inform the press officer about your visit.
Accessibility, access & facilities
How do I get to M HKA? M HKA can be reached by car, bicycle, on foot and by public transport. See all route descriptions here.
What parking options are there at M HKA? There are several parking options in the immediate vicinity of the museum. Both on the street and in an underground car park. See all parking options here.
Are there facilities for people with a physical disability? M HKA is easily accessible for people using a wheelchair, walking frame or buggy. The building has a large lift as well as wide access points. You can also borrow a wheelchair. Read more about the museum’s accessibility.
Can all floors be reached by lift? You can reach all floors by lift, with the exception of the archive presentation. This can only be reached by stairs.
Is there a café in the museum? You can visit M HKAFE, the museum café with roof terrace, on the 4th floor of the museum. It can be reached by lift and stairs. There is also a separate entrance to the roof terrace/entrance to the museum café on Leuvenstraat. The café is open during the museum’s opening hours. You do not need an admission ticket to go to the café.
Is there a bookshop in the museum? Take a piece of the museum home with you. Come and browse in the museum shop on the ground floor. The shop is open during the museum’s opening hours. You do not need an admission ticket to visit the shop.
Guided tours & venue hire
Can I join guided tours in the museum? You can visit the museum accompanied by one of our passionate guides. A maximum of 15 people is assigned per guide. See here for more information about guided tours.

About Muhka
What does ‘Muhka stand for? Muhka stands for Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen. Find out more here about Muhka.
Has Muhka been around for a long time? On 20 September 1985, Muhka was officially founded by the Flemish Community, and on 20 June 1987 the museum was opened. Read more here about the history of Muhka.
What is in Muhka’s collection? The Muhka collection contains some 5,000 works. Its backbone consists of its own acquisitions and works acquired by the Flemish Community. Discover everything here about our collection.

Does Muhka also publish publications? Absolutely! No classic museum catalogues for Muhka, but idiosyncratic publications accompanying the exhibition programme. Muhka is also co-publisher of the international art journal Afterall and regularly publishes a contribution on the platform L’Internationale Online. Muhka also produces online publications on exhibitions, extra muros projects and collaborations with other organisations.
